Question No. 627

Question by: Ms Hany Soh

Question

To ask the Minister for National Development whether the Building and Construction Authority will consider implementing greater protection against the misuse of nursing and lactation rooms under the Code on Accessibility in the Built Environment, including the imposition of penalties.

Answer

The Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Code on Accessibility in the Built Environment sets out the minimum design requirements for accessible and inclusive buildings.

Usage of these accessible features, including nursing and lactation rooms, is managed by building owners and facility managers. In this regard, they may implement various measures such as installing access controls and conducting regular monitoring to ensure the facilities are not misused.

We encourage all users of such facilities to be civic-minded.  Building owners are also encouraged to provide clear signage to inform users of the proper usage of these facilities.
