Question No: 6592
Question by: Mr Sharael Taha
To ask the Minister for National Development in the past three years, of the divorces filed where the couples co-own HDB flats, what is the proportion of (i) the matrimonial flats being sold on the open market and (ii) the divorcees being able to own flats after selling their matrimonial flats.
Answer:
From 2021 to 2023, about half of co-owned flats that underwent transactions due to divorce were sold on the open market, while the other half was transferred to one of the divorced parties. A very small number of flats were surrendered to HDB as neither party was willing and able to retain the flat, and the flat was not eligible to be sold on the open market.
In the same period, about 12,800 divorcees bought a resale flat or booked a new flat, either with their children or on their own. HDB does not track whether they had previously sold a matrimonial flat.
