Question No: 6470
Question by: Ms Sylvia Lim
To ask the Minister for National Development (a) in the last five years, whether HDB has permitted flat owners whose marriages are annulled to sell their flats instead of surrendering them; and (b) if so, what are the factors taken into account.
Answer:
If flat owners are unable to form an eligible family nucleus to retain flat ownership following the annulment of their marriage, the owners are required to surrender their flat to Housing and Development Board (HDB). Over the last five years, HDB has allowed the sale of flat following annulment in only a few cases that faced extenuating circumstances – for example, a confluence of significant financial difficulties and challenging family circumstances.
