Mr Chua Kheng Wee Louis: To ask the Minister for National Development (a) what is the rationale for ceasing to build new HDB executive apartments and executive maisonettes; and (b) whether the Government will consider re-introducing such flat types.

Answer:

1          HDB stopped building Executive Apartments and Executive Maisonettes, collectively termed as Executive flats, in Aug 1995, after the introduction of the Executive Condominium (EC) Housing Scheme. EC units provide a housing option for Singaporeans in addition to HDB flats.

2          New EC units are sold with initial eligibility and ownership restrictions to keep prices affordable. Eligible first-timer citizen families can enjoy the CPF Housing Grant when buying EC units from property developers. EC units become private properties after 10 years, thus meeting the private housing aspirations of Singaporeans.

3          There are no plans to re-introduce new Executive flats. Home seekers can consider the wide range of housing types currently available for new builds and the resale market.
