MSO's Youth Engagement Programmes

As future homeowners and decision-makers, the youths of today play an important role in the upkeeping of our living environment. The Municipal Services Office (MSO) hopes to empower and support passionate youths to implement their innovative ideas to resolve municipal issues within their community.

Currently we have 2 youth initiatives - Love Our ‘Hood Youth Challenge and Project Code R.E.D. (Research, Engage, Deploy).

Love Our 'Hood Youth Challenge (Open for registration now!)

Love Our ‘Hood Youth Challenge supports youth (between the age of 15-35 years old) to transform their creative ideas into effective solutions that will create a better living environment for the community.

Together with our partner, the National Youth Council (NYC), we mentor and fund youths up to $10,000 to pilot broad-based municipal-related ideas (such as awareness campaigns, community outreach, message testing, behavioural insights study etc) within their community.

The registration for the Love Our 'Hood Youth Challenge 2023 is currently open!

Project Code R.E.D

We collaborate with the institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) on Project Code R.E.D. where municipal topics are incorporated as part of IHLs/Pre-Us’ coursework/programmes, such as students’ Final Year Project where students get the opportunity to tackle real life problem statements.

Project Code R.E.D is designed as a prototype-oriented experience for the IHLs’ students to apply their skillset in problem solving. Mentored by their lecturers, students involved will undergo the R.E.D process to learn about municipal topics:

Research:
Understand the issue(s) of concern by residents on their living environment and the factors contributing to the issue(s);

Engage: Engage agencies, and community stakeholders to gain insights and develop idea(s)/ plan(s) to create a better living environment; and

Deploy: Test out the proposed solution (prototype) where possible.

During the implementation stage, students will get the chance to test out their prototypes by testing them on the ground. Upon project completion, students will submit a final report as their team project report. Prototypes that show potential may get the opportunity to be implemented within the community.
