Collaborate, Integrate, Innovate

The theme of the inaugural Urban Sustainability R&D Congress is “Collaborate, Innovate, Integrate”. These three words capture the essence of what we hope to achieve through the Congress.

The Singapore Story is a story of how human ingenuity is applied to overcome constraints of nature to create a better life for Singaporeans. Over the last four decades, we have developed through innovation many home-grown urban solutions, in land planning, transport, public housing, greening, building and food.

These innovations are often the product of close collaboration between government, research institutes and private sector companies. They are also often the result of smart integration, from upstream planning to downstream implementation, of policy, services, and technological innovations, across different functional areas of urban solutions.

These home-grown urban solutions have not only helped us overcome our natural resource constraints to survive as a nation. They have helped turn Singapore into a distinctive global city and an endearing home, and define for our people the “Singapore experience”.

The Urban Sustainability R&D Congress provides a new national platform for government agencies, research institutes and private sector companies to continue this story of collaboration, innovation and integration. It is where people can come together to build on existing urban solutions, develop future capabilities, create economic opportunities, tackle Singapore’s resource constraint, and address sustainable development challenges.
