Sustainable Development Blueprint

The Sustainable Singapore Blueprint was devised and created to bring about changes that would shape Singapore into a sustainable city-state. Launched by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Sustainable Development (IMCSD) in April 2009, the Blueprint contains strategies and initiatives needed for Singapore to achieve both economic growth and a good living environment over the next two decades.

Since Singapore is a small city-state with few natural resources, there is a need to manage the growth of our country in an efficient, clean and green way by making the most of the limited resources. The IMCSD was set up in January 2008 and was tasked with formulating a national strategy for sustainable development in the context of emerging domestic and global challenges.

The IMCSD is co-chaired by Minister for National Development Mr Mah Bow Tan, and Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, and includes members such as Minister for Finance Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Transport Mr Raymond Lim, and the Senior Minister of State & Industry Mr S Iswaran.

A four-pronged strategy will be employed to achieve the vision for Singapore as a liveable city. This includes boosting our resource efficiency, enhancing our urban environment, building our capabilities, and fostering community action. Ultimately, Sustainable Singapore aims to make our nation into a liveable and lively city-state that Singaporeans love and are proud to call home.
