ENGINEERS BOARD GETS NEW PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS
New
President and Board Composition

Er. Lau Joo Ming, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Building),
Housing & Development Board, has been elected as the new
President of the Professional Engineers Board (PEB). The new
15-member Board, which started its 3-year term on 1 Jan 2009,
comprises three ex-officio members, six members appointed
by the Minister for National Development and six members elected
by the community of professional engineers. The list of new
board members is attached at Annex A.

The new Board will build on the work
of previous Boards to raise the standard and profile of professional
engineering practice in Singapore. The new President, Er.
Lau said, "PEB will work closely with relevant organizations,
such as Institution of Engineers Singapore and the Association
of Consulting Engineers Singapore, to promote learning and
professional development, enthuse and attract the young to
join the profession, and consult with the wider community
on pertinent issues such as sustainability."
Tribute
to Previous President Er. Chua Koon Hoe
3 Er.
Chua Koon Hoe has served 11 years as PEB President. During
his tenure as President, he spearheaded various initiatives,
such as re-defining the scope of registration and the regulation
of professional engineering works. He also oversaw the streamlining
of registration requirements, introduction of professional
registration examinations, increasing the transparency of
disciplinary proceedings of the Board, and pioneering an election
system to give professional engineers greater say in selecting
their representatives on the Board. The PEB has greatly benefited
from Er Chua’s leadership and would like to place on record
its appreciation.

of National Development. Its mission is to safeguard life,
property, and the welfare of the public by setting and maintaining
high standards for registering professional engineers, and
by regulating and advancing the practice of professional engineering.
