COLLABORATION UNDER JOINT MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE (JMC) FOR THE ISKANDAR DEVELOPMENT REGION (IDR):
SITE VISIT TO SINGAPORE ON WATERWAY CLEANING AND BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAMME

A Malaysian delegation, led by YB Dato Sri Effendi Norwawi,
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia and
Chief Minister of Johor, YAB Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani Othman,
visited Singapore today at the invitation of Minister for
National Development, H.E. Mr. Mah Bow Tan, to understand
Singapore's efforts in the cleaning and beautification of
our waterways.
During this site visit, the Ministers were briefed on Singapore's
experience in river clean-up and beautification, its efforts
to enhance water self sufficiency as well as its plans to
provide new waterfront public housing. The Malaysian delegation
toured the Marina Barrage, Singapore River, NEWater Centre
and HDB projects along Sungei Api Api.
Joint collaboration in river cleaning in the IDR is one of the key initiatives identified by the Environment Work Group under the Joint Ministerial Committee (JMC) on the Iskandar Development Region (IDR). The JMC is jointly chaired by YB Dato Sri Effendi Norwawi, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia and H.E. Mr. Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development, Singapore, and includes as members the Chief Minister of Johor, YAB Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani Othman and H.E. Mr. Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport, Singapore.
