2ND MEETING OF THE MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE JOINT MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE (JMC) MEETING FOR THE ISKANDAR DEVELOPMENT REGION (IDR)

Johor Bahru, 5 Nov 2007

The Joint Ministerial Committee 1 (JMC) for the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) held its second working meeting at Pulai Springs Resort in Johor Bahru.

The JMC was taken on a site visit of the IDR. It also reviewed the progress made so far by the four Joint Work Groups on Immigration, Transportation, Tourism and Environment. It noted that the four Work Groups had identified a number of areas/projects for possible cooperation. Discussions and studies on the identified areas/projects would be carried out in the next few months.

The JMC will meet again in the next few months.


1 The establishment of the JMC on the IDR was first announced by the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Singapore in Langkawi, Kedah following their meeting in May 2007, with the aim of facilitating cooperation between the two countries in relation to the IDR.

Jointly chaired by YB Dato Sri Effendi Norwawi, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia and H.E. Mr. Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development, Singapore, the JMC also included as members the Chief Minister of Johor, YAB Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani Othman and H.E. Mr. Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport, Singapore.
