SPEECH BY MR MAH BOW TAN, MINISTER FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AT THE LAUNCH OF TIGERLIVE, ST JAMES POWER STATION, ON 14 DECEMBER 2006, AT 8.00 PM

Mr Koh Poh Tiong, CEO, Asia Pacific Breweries,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am happy to join you this evening and to be amongst the first to experience TigerLIVE.

2 Tiger beer is one of Singapore’s well-known icons. It is more than just a local beer; Tiger beer has established itself as a global brand. The drink can be enjoyed in over 60 countries around the world, including Asia, Europe and the United States. As Singaporeans, we are proud of Tiger beer’s success. With TigerLIVE, we will now be able to share the experience and journey of Tiger Beer in the last 70 years.

3 TigerLIVE will offer the first of its kind multi-sensory brewery tour experience in Southeast Asia, using state-of-the-art technology to bring to life the rich heritage of Tiger beer. TigerLIVE will also add to the buzz of this area. Together with St James Power Station, Vivocity, the recently announced Sentosa Integrated Resort, and with events like Zouk-Out, this part of Singapore will become a lifestyle and recreational hub.

4 Recently, Singapore was ranked No. 2 for its nightlife and dining in the Global Country Brand Index survey. Many people were surprised. But if you think about Singapore a few years ago and today, maybe it is not so surprising. Things have certainly changed. While cities like Bangkok and Hong Kong may be better known for their nightlife, Singapore is definitely catching up. And we should do more to offer even more variety and unique lifestyle experiences.

5 I am excited about the Singapore of the future. We are well on our way to creating a great city to live, work and play. New and exciting developments like Marina Bay, the two integrated resorts, beautiful residential towns, and events - like this - will inject a new vibrancy into the city.

6 The transformation of the HarbourFront from a shipyard into a bustling lifestyle and entertainment hub is another excellent example of how entrepreneurial spirit, sound planning, and good business ideas can transform a place for the better.

7 The growth of Tiger beer mirrors the development of Singapore. It has evolved with changing times. It has undertaken makeovers to retain its existing markets as well as capture new ones. I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to Asia Pacific Breweries on its 75th Anniversary and the opening of TigerLIVE.

Thank you.
