The sounds of children’s laughter are commonly heard at the playgrounds of Singapore’s housing estates. A permanent feature since the Housing & Development Board’s early days, these amenities started as a humble installation of stationary sculptures, and soon evolved to become a three-dimensional art board of creativity, with designs often resembling everyday items, such as clocks and watermelons. These days, playgrounds have taken on a whole new look, incorporating latest safety enhancements and learning elements. But be it the moulds of the old or the innovation of the new, these playgrounds are, and always will remain, a great place of fun and merriment!
