We watched in wonderment as the tiny particles slowly dissolve in the crystal clear water to form a smooth, yellow mixture, which will eventually end up on our plates as mouth-watering omelettes. Gone are the days where we fiddled with shell eggs, fingers trembling as we tried warily to pry these fragile creations open. It was a challenge keeping the yolks intact, so you could imagine the relief we felt, now that there are alternatives – the liquid eggs and egg powder. Not only do they taste just as good, they also allow us to stretch our grocery dollar. So for those foodies out there who care about their pockets as much as we do, do take a look at some of the delectable recipes in the article “Egg-cellent Alternatives”.
And the search for alternatives does not stop at the dining table. While the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority’s efforts in diversifying our food sources should not go unnoticed, the same goes for Housing & Development Board’s relentless drive in expanding its inventory of construction materials. What used to be an arduous task of stacking one brick on top of another is now an innovative process of combining Lego-like prefabricated components. From external facade walls to floor slabs, from columns to staircases – you name it, they’ve got it!
Also in this month, be charmed by the timeless story of The Man Who Planted Trees, which tells of a shepherd who spent painstaking 40 years cultivating a forest in a desolate and abandoned valley at the foothills of the Alps. Check out how the National Parks Board drew inspiration from this magical eco-fable, and brought it to great heights by creating a giant centrepiece of it to be displayed at the upcoming Singapore Garden Festival 2010.
So join us, as we embark on an enchanting journey in another rousing issue of MND Link.
