Extra efforts for excellence

Ng Ee Leng Velvet
Housing & Development Board

Senior Executive Estates Officer
Years in service: 12
The numerous flat applicants who had benefited from her assistance when they were purchasing resale flats would probably see Ms Velvet Ng as their housing ‘angel’. In her 12 years of working at HDB’s frontline, she has been a great help to many who faced various problems with transaction dates, as well as the low-income.
Earlier this year, Velvet helped Ms Suzanna solve her problem of being unable to move out in time to hand over the flat to her buyers. Besides persuading the flat buyers to postpone the transaction date, Velvet went the extra mile by offering to take the legal documents to the buyers’ workplace or home personally, allowing them to complete the transaction despite being unable to be physically present on the date of the resale transaction.
When Ms Suzanna later changed her mind and decided that she and her tenants could move out earlier, Velvet immediately contacted the buyers and HDB’s Legal and Finance Departments to bring the transaction date forward. As Ms Suzanna was in Kuala Lumpur then, Velvet even helped to check that Ms Suzanna paid her Service & Conservancy Charges (S&CC), sparing Ms Suzanna from having to make an appointment with the town council.
Due to Velvet’s extra efforts, Ms Suzanna was able to hand over the flat on her preferred date with all her issues sorted out, while the buyers were pleased that they could start renovation work in their flat earlier.
On other occasions, Velvet also went out of her way to help low-income residents appeal to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board for a refund of money from investments so that they could use it for flat purchase, or for an extension of the time given to complete the transaction.
