Editor's Note

Just how liveable are our cities? About a week ago, Singapore played host to top leaders, city mayors and urban development experts as they gathered here to exchange ideas on sustainability development and environmentally friendly solutions for cities. Check out this issue for the highlights of the second biennial World Cities Summit.

Good things are worth the wait. Just ask the winner of the student category of the photo competition, Mr Pan Ken Nie, who kept watch on the Long-tailed Shrike for about a month before he managed to take a snapshot of the victorious moment of the bird feasting on a lizard. If you are keen on more sights of animals in actions and plants that are rarely seen, then you should not miss the photo exhibition ‘BiodiverCity’, which is currently making its rounds at public parks.

We also bring you on a walk down the hall of fame, as members from the MND family who were awarded the PS21 Star Service Award and the PS21 Distinguished Star Service Award share how they touched the lives of others through providing excellent public service.

Finally, read about how HDB put the icing on the cake and grabbed the Web Excellence award for HDB InfoWeb, as well as what it takes to be able to see a tiger orchid bloom wildly on the streets of Orchard Road.
