BRIEFING ON ISKANDAR DEVELOPMENT REGION
The
Minister for National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan, and a delegation
from Singapore visited Johor Bahru (JB) on 11 December 2006
to attend an informal briefing on the recently announced Iskandar
Development Region (IDR) by Malaysian officials. He was there
at the invitation of Malaysia’s Minister in the Prime
Minister’s Office, Datuk Seri Mohd Effendi Norwawi.
Also present were Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, Chief Minister
of Johor and Dato’ Azman bin Hj. Mokhtar, Managing Director
of Khazanah Nasional.
The
Singapore delegation was updated on the key features of the
proposed IDR, and the upcoming plans for its implementation.
Minister
Mah Bow Tan said, “The Malaysian Ministers shared with
us their vision for South Johor. It is an exciting one that
could potentially attract new investments and present opportunities
for mutual benefits. Today’s briefing was only an informal
one. We look forward to hearing more details to better understand
the plans.”
Minister
Mah was accompanied by Minister of State for Trade & Industry
Mr S Iswaran, Minister of State for National Development Ms
Grace Fu, as well as officials from the Ministry of National
Development, Ministry of Trade and Industry, IE Singapore
and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
