Dear Sir
Dorms: School sites slated for other uses
We refer to the letter "Let us house them everywhere", published on 17 Oct 2008.
2. In identifying vacant state properties for possible conversion to temporary dormitory use, MND takes into account such factors as their availability, that is, whether they are already committed for use or has an immediate competing use, and their technical feasibility, such as whether they have adequate sewerage and other infrastructure to support the development.
3. The writer has highlighted possible uses for two school sites - namely the former Jurong Garden School in Upper Bukit Timah Road and the Anglo Chinese School (Junior) in Cairnhill Road. Both these sites have already been committed for education use. The Jurong Garden School site is now on tender for a commercial or foreign system school to meet the need for such school places. Anglo Chinese School (Junior) in Cairnhill Road, has already been slated as MOE's second Language Centre.
Yours faithfully
